A popular broadcast suggested the footage was taken to single out the Blancos stopper for his actions on the pitch, though Pep Guardiola declined to release it to the media
Barcelona filmed Real Madrid defender Pepe to identify unsporting behavior in four Clasico games, a radio station has claimed.
Catalunya Radio stated that footage of the Portugal international was recorded during the two-week spell in 2011 when the Spanish giants locked horns on four separate occasions.
In the program 'El club de la mitjanit' it was claimed that the Blaugrana asked for the filming to take place in order to catch the 29-year-old engaging in unsporting behavior against the likes of Lionel Messi.
It was not, however, revealed whether the footage was to be used to as evidence of any unsavory actions from Pepe, or as a tactical tool for Pep Guardiola's side to exploit.
The news tallies with Tito Vilanova's recent comments about the former Porto defender in the wake of the recent 2-2 draw at Camp Nou, when the coach said: "you can make a film of all the times Pepe has kicked us," after Pepe had claimed Barcelona's players had acted "theatrically."
According to the radio broadcast, the filming was done by the Blaugrana scouting team, but then-coach Guardiola advised that the footage not be released as it would become clear it had been organized by the club.
